How many websites use Astro?

1,504,509 live websites use Astro in BuiltWith’s report retrieved on 6 October 2026. Wappalyzer separately reports 360,000 live websites on the same retrieval date.

Both services detect Astro on public websites, but their coverage and detection systems differ. Their public reports do not reconcile the gap. Neither count is a census of every Astro project, and adding them would count some sites twice.

BuiltWith lists redirects and past detections separately. Its live-site figure excludes those categories. A locally developed project or a private application may never appear in a public-web detection report.

What percentage of websites use Astro?

W3Techs reports Astro on 0.2% of all websites in its survey and 0.3% of websites with a known content management system, retrieved on 6 October 2026. W3Techs places Astro in its content management category.

The first percentage includes sites without an identified CMS. The second uses only sites where W3Techs identifies one. Neither is Astro’s share of JavaScript developers or static site generators.

W3Techs surveys websites with meaningful content or functionality, excludes redirects and treats subdomains as part of the same website. Those rules help explain why its percentages cannot be applied to BuiltWith’s count to calculate the size of the web.

The withastro/astro repository had 63,075 stars when checked on 6 October 2026. The contributors API returned 1,244 contributor records with anonymous contributors included. The Stack Overflow figures describe extensive development work over the past year, from its web frameworks and technologies question. Its all-respondent result covers people who answered that question. State of JavaScript attracts a more specialised JavaScript audience, and the surveys ask different questions. Their usage percentages should not be treated as competing measurements of the same population.

These are findings from the 2025 surveys, available to readers in 2026. State of JavaScript describes its audience as a self-selected subset of developers.

How these numbers are measured

  • Website detections: observations within each provider’s coverage. Different crawls, technology signatures and rules for grouping sites can produce different results.
  • Market share: percentages within W3Techs’ defined website sample and technology category.
  • Downloads and GitHub activity: package distribution and repository participation, each with its own unit of measurement.
  • Surveys: reported experience and opinions from participating developers. The survey year is separate from the date these results were retrieved.

No worldwide website total or growth rate has been extrapolated from these datasets.
