identity and links set the product name, description and signup, login and documentation links.
Colors and typography
theme.colors and theme.fonts set the palette and display and body font stacks.
Home sections
home sets headline text, product facts, feature and journal limits, and the closing signup band.
Release changelog
changelog.enabled removes release pages, the feed, home release sections, links and search entries when false.
Pricing and commerce
pricing sets billing labels and savings wording; commerce.enabled removes pricing and checkout features when false.
Optional sections
Empty home.facts and integrations.items lists hide those sections, and empty links.*.href values hide their buttons.

Features

  • The home page introduces your product with a large headline, signup links, facts, features and integrations.
  • The signature changelog has a sticky version column, grouped changes, individual release pages and an RSS feed.
  • Pricing cards and plan pages show billing choices, included features, limits and a computed yearly saving.
  • Each product or variant can use a checkout link from Stripe Payment Links, Polar, Lemon Squeezy or Shopify.
  • The optional Stripe Checkout cart handles one-off add-ons with your own Stripe secret key and a server adapter.
  • The optional EmDash edition puts content, menus and site settings in EmDash.

What the download includes

  • Spec 1.0.0 includes Astro source with typed collections for products, categories, features, releases, journal entries and pages.
  • The template includes 11 CC0 photographs with source and license records in ASSETS.json.
  • Funnel Display ExtraBold is bundled under SIL OFL 1.1, with system fonts for body text.
  • README and GETTING-STARTED cover content, configuration, checkout links and the optional cart.
  • CUSTOMIZE.md and AGENTS.md provide references for editing with any coding agent.
  • The optional EmDash edition uses npm run emdash:setup to switch the content source.

Setup

  1. Use Node 24 LTS or Node 22 LTS, version 22.19.0 or later, and install dependencies with npm ci.
  2. Start npm run dev and open the local address shown by Astro.
  3. Replace the demo content and photos, then set your identity, domain, app links and appearance in src/site.config.ts.
  4. Create checkout links for your plans and billing variants, and test them with your payment provider before publishing.
  5. For the optional one-off add-on cart, configure a server adapter and your own STRIPE_SECRET_KEY environment variable.
  6. To use EmDash, run npm run emdash:setup for Node.js or Cloudflare, then edit menus and site settings in EmDash.
  7. Run npm run check, npm test and npm run build after editing, and verify the candidate on separate hosted staging.
  8. Publish the tested dist/ output at your domain root for a static site, or deploy the server build for the cart or EmDash.

Spec is a landing site template for software products and SaaS, priced at $47 USD one-time. Its large headline and signup links lead into product facts, feature explanations, integrations and pricing. Rounded frames, violet bands and labeled specification rows carry through the home and plan pages. The demo uses Tern, a fictional uptime-monitoring service, as example content you replace with your own product, photographs and text. You provide the application and account system that your signup and login links open.

The signature feature is the release changelog. A timeline with a sticky version column groups changes under New, Improved and Fixed, with a page for each release and an RSS feed. The latest release appears above the home headline, and recent releases have their own home section. Set changelog.enabled to false in src/site.config.ts to remove the entire feature. Other extras can also be switched off there, including commerce, integration tiles and the product-fact row. Release and journal feeds contain no entries until the site is configured for indexing.

Commerce is enabled for plans and add-ons. Each product or billing variant can link to Stripe Payment Links, Polar, Lemon Squeezy or Shopify checkout, where your provider handles payment and subscriptions. Pricing displays monthly and yearly choices and calculates a yearly saving from the prices you enter. The optional Stripe Checkout cart is for one-off add-ons and requires a server adapter and your own Stripe secret key. Keep checkout links on recurring plans and recurring add-ons. Cart checks used mocked Stripe requests; a live Stripe payment and hosted adapter were not tested for this theme. Contact forms post directly to a configurable HTTPS endpoint; when no endpoint is configured, visitors use an email link.

Edit content in Markdown or MDX and configure the site in src/site.config.ts, using CUSTOMIZE.md and AGENTS.md with any coding agent. The optional EmDash edition switches with npm run emdash:setup on Node.js or Cloudflare, with menus and site settings edited in EmDash. Replace the sample policies and demo links before publishing, then test your changed site on hosted staging. Version 1.0.0 includes the source, setup documentation, 11 CC0 photographs and the bundled display font.
