Design controls

Site Editor
Edit templates, header, footer, navigation and the masthead, About and Contact patterns with core blocks in Appearance → Editor. No page builder.
Colour palette
6 palette colours (Paper, Ink, Index red, Muted text, Hairline, Tint) in Styles → Colors.
Style variation
Ink (dark) in Styles → Browse styles; the default style is white.
Fonts
Public Sans and IBM Plex Mono are served from your own site, with sizes in Styles → Typography.
Theme Setup
Story numbers (01, 1 or none), row spacing (tight, regular or open), list standfirst and date/reading time, A–Z letters and jump row, story photo.
Block styles
Index card (Group), Numbered index (List), Standfirst (Paragraph) and Red rule (Heading).
Page templates
Assign A–Z index of stories, About / colophon, Contact or Wide page to any page.
Stories
Section is the first category and the standfirst is the excerpt; reading time is calculated. An optional index_press_issue custom field sets the issue.

Setup

  1. Upload and activate the theme ZIP in Appearance → Themes.
  2. Keep Settings → Reading on Your latest posts: the front page becomes the numbered index and the Site Title becomes the masthead.
  3. Create A–Z, About and Contact pages with their templates, then add them to the header navigation.
  4. Change colours, fonts and templates in Appearance → Editor, and list presentation in Appearance → Theme Setup.
  5. Demo content is fictional: replace the sample stories, pages, photographs and hello@example.com before publishing.
